Conductor Heinz Wallberg leads the Vienna
Symphonic Orchestra in a 1984 concert featuring
guest appearances by tenor Nicolai Gedda, soprano
Tamara Lund, and pianist Hans Graf. Together, the
orchestra and three soloists perform a wide range
of classical music that includes Lehar's operetta
songs "Friends, Life is Worth Living" and "One
Will Come;" Schubert's overture from ROSAMUNDE;
Chopin's variation on "Reach Me Your Hand, My
Life" from Mozart's DON GIOVANNI; Richard Strauss'
series of waltzes from THE KNIGHT OF ROSES; Johann
Strauss' last completed waltz "Embrace Each Other,
Madding Crowd;" and Ziehrer's waltz "Come and
See."

Pope John Paul II commissioned this special concert,
the first of many events in the Jubilee 2000
Celebrations. Renowned tenor Jose Carreras performs
a mixture of beloved classical pieces and
traditional Christmas melodies, and is joined by the
Dell Emilia Rome Symphony Orchestra.
